Naidu terms walk ‘rarest of rare’

January 19, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - VELIVENNU (WEST GODFAVARI DIST):

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu went off beat by embarking on a ‘padayatra’ in his official position covering several villages in West Godavari district on Sunday.

Mr. Naidu incidentally had touched upon these parts when he undertook a marathon walkathon as Opposition leader in 2013 under the ‘Vastunna Meekosam’ programme. For the record, he launched his padayatra programme at Hindupur and wound it up in Visakhapatnam, covering a distance of 2,817 km. Mr. Naidu sought to describe his latest effort as the “rarest of the rare”. “The marathon walk in 2013 left me with foot sores, which I still have,” he recalled while addressing a gathering at Velivennu.

“The padayatra has a mission. The mission is to create awareness among people about the development of villages and towns, launch a campaign on public issues like sanitation and safe drinking water and attract philanthropists and non-resident Indians into the process.”
