Stage is set for commencing works on the Nadikudi-Srikalahasti railway line, which passes through the Venkatagiri and Rapur areas in Nellore district, connecting the upland and far-flung areas to other parts of the State.
A survey on forest lands to be used for the railway line was taken up by the district administration, in association with the Forest Department and the South Central Railway (SCR).
According to officials, nearly 101 hectares may come under the new railway line. Reports on the survey conducted will be submitted to the government and railways soon. Apart from catering to the needs of people of upland areas and interior mandals in Chittoor, Nellore, Prakasam and Guntur districts, the Nadikudi-Srikalahasti line is expected to give a big boost to cement and granite exports.
The new line will connect Srikalahasti, Venkatagiri, Rapur, Obulayapalli, Podili, Darsi, Gundlakamma, Vinukonda, Rompicherla, Nakerakal and Nadikudi. “This railway line has to be developed with urgency. This will greatly help people in upland and backward areas,” Nellore MP Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy said.
