After the historic adoption of Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar as the successor to the erstwhile Wadiyar dynasty, it’s now the turn to coronate him as the ‘prince’.
The second most-awaited event in the Mysuru royal family is expected to unfold at the iconic Amba Vilas Palace on May 28.
Yaduveer, who was adopted by Pramoda Devi Wadiyar during a high-profile and dazzling ceremony at the Kalyana Mantap in February this year, would be crowned as the ‘Yuvaraja’ after a sequence of rituals and pujas linked with the ceremony, which are likely to begin on May 27.
The two-day event is expected to be private and will be limited only for the royal family members, close relatives and friends.
The royal sword and royal seal of the Wadiyars will be handed over to Yaduveer following the customary rituals. With this, Yaduveer will officially take over the reigns of the former Wadiyar dynasty.
Palace sources told The Hindu that a formal announcement on Yaduveer’s coronation is expected in a day or two. Ms. Wadiyar is busy finalising the programme and the list of guests.
Meanwhile, preparations are in full swing at the palace for the coronation, which is said to be happening after a long gap. A giant pandal is being put up in front of the residential palace of the Wadiyars.
The U.S. educated 23-year-old Yaduveer, who celebrated his birthday in March, arrived here from Boston a few days back and was given a warm reception by Ms. Wadiyar. He has been staying at the palace since his arrival.
As the coronation is accompanied by rituals, which are likely to be performed by a battery of priests, the palace premises is likely to be out of bounds for visitors on May 27 and 28.
