Muslims in State asked to apply for Haj pilgrimage

Of the State’s quota of 3,000, only 1,158 persons have applied so far

Deputy Chief Minister and Minorities Minister Amzath Basha Shaik Bepari called upon Muslims to make use of the Haj scheme and apply for Haj pilgrimage in time. According to a release by the Andhra Pradesh Haj Committee, Mr. Amzath said that though there is scope for up to 3,000 persons from the State to go on the Haj pilgrimage in 2020, only 1,158 persons have applied for it so far. He said that the last date for submitting online applications is November 10 and asked the Muslim community to make use of it.Mr. Bepari said that the cancellation of Haj subsidy and imposing GST on the pilgrimage costs has come as a disappointment for many but many from Telangana are still keen on undertaking the pilgrimage.

Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has extended financial support of ₹60,000 for pilgrims belonging to families with an annual income of less than ₹3 lakh and ₹30,000 for others.

The highest number of applications came from Kurnool (242) followed by Anantapur (159), Kadapa (155), Chittoor (141), Guntur (126), and Krishna (109) among others. Aspirants can call 1800-425-7873 or 9346947743 for more information.
