Expressing concern over the issue of bringing back the artefacts belonged to the State from the Archaeological Museum in Hyderabad, Deputy Speaker Mandali Buddha Prasad on Sunday announced that a museum would be developed in Kakinada to preserve idols, inscriptions, palm scripts and manuscripts of antique value.

“We have lost some of our valuable idols and inscriptions to Tamil Nadu, when Andhra State was formed. Now, Telangana is claiming ownership on the artefacts placed in the museums in Telangana. There is a need to bring back our artefacts and place them in museums here,” he said while addressing the centenary celebrations of Dantu Bhaskara Rao, former MLA and former chairman of Kakinada Municipality. Mr. Buddha Prasad presented ‘Dantu Bhaskara Rao Memorial Literary Award’ to renowned scholar Veturi Ananda Murthy and released a book on the impact of ‘Vaishnava’ cult on Telugu literature with special reference to Tallapaka Poets written by the latter.

City MLA Vanamadi Venkateswara Rao, who presided over the meeting, recalled the services rendered by Bhaskara Rao to the city as municipal chairman and MLA. Former Union Minister M.M. Pallam Raju, chairman of the Cocanada Chamber of Commerce Dantu Surya Rao and others were present.
