Mullaperiyar panel visits dam

The subcommittee on Mullaperiyar led by Harish Girish Umberji visited the dam on Saturday.

The panel visited the main dam, baby dam, spillway shutters, and the earth dam. At a meeting after the visit, representatives of Tamil Nadu brought the panel’s attention to the need for felling 23 trees in the Periyar Tiger Reserve for strengthening works of the baby dam.

The meeting decided to brief the apex committee to take a decision on the issue. At present, water level in the Mullaperiyar was 116.8 ft.
