Remember Malli Mastan Babu, the Indian mountaineer who died in the Andes mountain ranges in South America in 2015?

The internationally acclaimed mountaineer was known for his achievements such as scaling several insurmountable mountain peaks.

After his demise, his body was brought to his native village in Nellore district, where the last rites were performed with State honours.

The government had then announced a piece of land to his mother Subbamma.

A resident of Gandhi Janasangham village near Sangam town in the district, Subbamma had made many visits to the revenue offices in the last few years for the promised land, but to no avail.

After a three-year wait, she could finally get her two-acre plot. She would have missed the opportunity had she not made her request to the officials at the recent ‘Mee Bhoomiki Bharosa’ programme. After verifying facts, district Collector R. Mutyala Raju allotted land at Padamatipalem and handed over the patta to Subbamma.

Masthan Babu, an alumnus of IIT Kharagpur and IIM Kolkata, had brought name and fame to the district by ascending the Seven Summits located in seven continents in 2006.
