More people practise Yoga for health

Thanks to increasing awareness about lifestyle diseases, more and more people are setting aside time from their hectic schedule to practise Yoga for good health in Ongole.

It has become a practice for the morning walkers visiting the Rangarayaducheruvu at dawn to sit in-front of Patanjali Yoga Peetam State vice-president G. Balasubramanium after brisk walking, to learn some easy-to-practice Yoga postures to shed the extra weight they had put in over the years.

There are various ‘asanas’ for weight loss without any side-effects. These include some back-bending exercises, standing asanas and sitting asanas, Mr Balasubramaniam says after sharing the secrets for a healthy life with men, women and children who have turned up for the special summer camp in large numbers.

One can keep at bay diabetes, which is the root cause for major ailments with regular practice of Yoga, he adds after a hectic session which includes Pranayama (breathing technique) to lead a stress-free life. Happy over the turnout for the Yoga camp, Mr Balasubramaniam says, “We are gearing up for holding celebrations in a big way on June 21, declared by the United Nations as the International Yoga Day.”

He stressed the need for bringing back to the dining table millets which had been the staple diet of people for a long time in the country. Polished rice, processed sugar and other refined food products produced using chemical fertilizers are contributing to ill-health, he adds before planting herbal plants along with his disciples.
