Youth who are obsessed with modern trends must realise that modernism did not mean rejection of the age-old moral, traditional, spiritual and social values preached by Swami Vivekananda, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Rashtriya Ekta Trust district chairman Varanasi Pratap Reddy asserted on Monday.

Dr. Pratap Reddy and Trust members celebrated the 152nd birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda by undertaking Swachch Bharat programme and clearing cheeky bushes and garbage strewn around the Swamiji’s statue on old RIMS premises, in which several government offices are located. They cleansed Swami Vivekananda statue, applied tilak, garlanded it and placed flowers near it with reverence.

VHP district honorary president Byreddy Ramakrishna Reddy, district president K.V. Lakshminarayana Reddy and leaders Krishna Reddy, Venkatarami Reddy, Kumaraswamy, Mastanaiah, Javed and others participated.

Patriotism

Swami Vivekananda’s preachings imbibed patriotism above religious and caste considerations and leadership qualities and self-confidence among youth, Pushpagiri School director M. Vivekananda Reddy said in jayanthi celebrations on the residential public school premises here.

Swami Vivekananda’s message should be passed on to every student through libraries, he said after garlanding a portrait.

He administered a pledge to the 12th standard students that they would comprehend the teachings of Swami Vivekananda and lead ideal lives.
