The racket of fake TDR (Transfer of Development Rights) bonds busted by the city police has once again brought to the fore the missing case of several such bonds from the civic body’s town planning wing last year.
In May 2016, the then civic chief had suspended 10 employees, including office superintendents and senior assistants. The reason behind it was an unknown number of TDR bonds and building plans going missing.
Even today, officials are clueless over the missing documents as the entire administrative workforce in the wing was replaced following the suspensions.
“I had enquired with the superintendents. They have no idea of the case or its development since they are the ones who replaced the suspended officers,” said City Planner B. Srinivasulu, who superseded the then officer Pradeep Kumar, when contacted.
The missing of bonds came to light when a Tirupati-based man approached the town planning wing in the city to claim the bonds of his property in the city. Later, it was found that his bonds along with that of many others were missing.
Compensation
The TDR bonds are given as compensation in lieu of cash for property owners who give away their properties for public development works.
They hold monetary value and can be sold to others or the civic body.
Loss of the original copies at the corporation, however, nullifies the value of the bonds with property owners.
Recovered bonds
However, the two original bonds stolen by the VMC attender, kingpin of the fake bonds racket, and the bonds that were missing are not the same.
Mr. Srinivasulu said that he would further inquire into the matter.
