A timely alert by a municipal worker on the tyres of a lorry laden with LPG refills catching fire to its driver averted a major mishap in Mydukur on Wednesday.

The rear tyres of the lorry carrying a load of LPG refills from Kadapa to Proddatur caught fire owing to the friction. But, the driver had not even the clue of it as he kept driving the container. Sivaiah, a worker of the drinking water wing of the Mydukur municipality who was riding his bike behind the lorry, noticed the burning tyres. Soon, he gave his bike a throttle to overtake the lorry and alerted the driver.
