Unidentified miscreants attacked a Sub-Inspector of the Red Sanders Anti Smuggling Task Force (RSASTF) in the early hours of Saturday.
According to official sources, SI G. Ashok Kumar was returning home from work on his two-wheeler, when the miscreants way laid him just a few yards away from his house at Padmavathipuram abutting the Tiruchanur Road.
They sprinkled threw chilli powder on the SI’s eyes and the latter lost control on his bike.
But before the attackers reported to their next move, Mr. Ashok suddenly pulled out his firearm and train it on the attackers who fled the scene on their motorcycles.
The SI failed to see who the attackers were and to take note of the registration number of their bikes, owing to the chilly powder attack.
A case has been registered at Tiruchanur police station and investigation is on.
It may be noted Mr. Ashok was one of the members of the team that took part in the Seshachalam encounter and was injured during the ordeal.
‘Smugglers scouting
for alternate ways’
DGP J.V. Ramudu on Saturday said that that rattled by the offensive, the smugglers were now scouting for alternative ways to transport the felled logs to various destinations.
