Minor girl raped in Ongole, POCSO invoked against accused

A 14-year-old dalit girl was raped allegedly by her relative in a lodge here in the wee hours of Monday. Ongole Deputy Superintendent of Police G. Srinivasa Rao said the girl studying in the ninth standard was brought out of the SC Girls Hostel in Kandukur on Sunday on the pretext of showing her to a doctor for eye check up by the relative. The relative C. Dattaiah (40) bought her goodies too.

The girl without suspecting his intentions came with him as she had met him on a few occasions along with her mother, the police officer said.

"It was not proper to return late in the night," the relative whom she used to call as uncle, said and checked into the lodge along with her after registering themselves as father and daughter in the lodge register. He committed the offence early on Monday before fleeing from the lodge and leaving her in the lurch, the DSP said.

The girl was admitted to the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences here for examination and treatment later.
