Minister for Endowments, and Vijayawada West MLA Vellampalli Srinivasa Rao asked officials of the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) to take up repairs of roads and drainages in the constituency. While inspecting the area along with municipal commissioner V. Prasanna Venkatesh and other officials, Mr. Rao told them that roads in many areas are in poor condition causing troubles not only to motorists but also pedestrians.

He asked the officials to ensure that all the drains in the area are free from blockages that cause overflowing and subsequent water-logging of roads and areas during rainfall.

Cause of concern

He told officials that R.R. Apparao Road, Amma Hotel Centre, Convent Road, Prakash Market and other areas and roads that were dug up for underground drainage have not been restored since long and it has become a cause of concern for locals.

About the demand of shifting Urdu School and Urdu Junior College to the new building, Mr. Rao said he would take up the issue with the concerned officials.

Seeks solution

Further, he asked civic officials to address the issue of inundation of Rotary Nagar and nearby areas with a permanent solution. Officials told the minister that it requires widening of the drainage passing by the area and removal of bottlenecks in the channel to Budameru rivulet.

At the Gandhi park, Mr. Rao pointed out lack of facilities and equipment and asked officials to do the necessary.
