The government is contemplating distributing Janata Sari and dhoti to 1.30 crore white ration card holders.

This will check migrations and also provide employment throughout the year, said Kollu Ravindra, Minister for Excise, Handloom and Textiles. He said the government had sanctioned Rs. 110 crore towards waiver of loans of 24,000 members of BCs.

The Minister, who participated in a slew of activities in the district on Friday, during an interaction with men of weavers’ societies here, said that 225 BC members would benefit from the waiver of Rs. 43lakh in Vizianagaram.

He also proposed “neta bazars” in every district and assured weavers that the government would offer 20 per cent rebate on stocks piled up in societies.

At a meeting Prohibition and Excise officials, he said that the state would be freed from all complaints including running of belt shops and selling IMFLs over and above MRP.

Policy on bars

He said that a new policy on bars would be finalised by month-end. Mr. Ravindra said that efforts were on to open BC Study circles in each district and asked district officials to allot suitable sites for developing infrastructure.

Later, the Minister distributed subsidy proceedings, cheques and units totalling Rs.30.22crore to 5,219 beneficiaries.
