MGU to shut down off-campus centres

June 21, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:48 am IST - KOTTAYAM:

Mahatma Gandhi University Vice Chancellor Babu Sebastian has issued orders for closure of its off-campus centres that have not received government sanction or approval. The university has 55 off-campus centres. The order is based on a directive by Chancellor V. Sathasivam.

Speaking to The Hindu on Satruday, Dr. Sebastian said the university would take care of the nearly 20,000 students to be affected by the decision.

The second- and third-year undergraduate students and the second-year postgraduate students in these institutions would be brought directly under the School of Distance Education and provided with course materials and contact classes.

They would be allowed to appear for the examinations at a centre near to their respective off-campus centre, he said.

“If any of the centre can provide us with evidences of government approval and sanction, it would be able to continue,” Dr. Sebastian said.
