Marriage of minor girl thwarted

Childline India Foundation NGO partner HELP stopped the marriage of a 15-year-old schoolgirl with a 27-year-old man at Janarpeta near Chirala in Prakasam district on Sunday.

The classmates of the girl, a 10th class student, dialled the toll free number 1098 installed for the purpose and informed about the marriage plan. Soon, a team of social activists led by B.V. Sagar rushed to the village and stopped the marriage.

Parents counselled

The parents of the girls were also counselled and they promised that they would send her daughter to a model school from the next academic year, it is learnt. An undertaking was also obtained from the girl’s parents in the presence of Chirala I Town Circle Inspector N. Satyanarayana Rao.
