Political leaders and representatives of various organisations gave representations to Water Resources Minister and in charge Minister for Kurnool district P. Anil Kumar Yadav over water, High Court, capital city and other issues.

After the Minister released money for AgriGold victims, he was stopped on the way by the Rayalaseema students’ joint action committee leaders demanding that the government must give clarity as to where the High Court and the capital city would be set up.

Stating that he would take up the issue with Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Minister told them that development would be decentralised and all the districts would be equally developed.

Bar association members also met Mr. Yadav, who was accompanied by Finance Minister Buggana Rajendranath Reddy, Labour Minister Gummanur Jayaram and other MLAs and the two MPs of the district.

Lawyers to meet CM

Kurnool district bar associations’ JAC convenor Y. Jaya Raju told The Hindu that all the public representatives present had extended support to their movement and invited lawyers to Amaravati for a meeting with the Chief Minister.

Water woes

Prior to this, the leaders of the Rayalaseema Saaguneeti Sadhana Samithi met Mr. Yadav and demanded that he immediately set up a Krishna river management board in the State as per the AP Reorganisation Act.

Vice-president of the samithi Y.N. Reddy alleged that the TDP government had neglected the issue. “The government should look into setting the board in Kurnool as part of decentralising development,” he added.

District president of CPI(M) K. Prabhakar Reddy gave a representation to Mr. Yadav demanding that the government construct the Gundrevula Reservoir, RDS right canal, Vedavathi lift irrigation scheme, a flood canal on the Tungabhadra river and to fill 106 tanks from the HNSS canals in the district.
