A young man allegedly committed suicide by throwing himself into the Ryves Canal, near Alankar Junction, while his friends watched helplessly in the early hours of Wednesday.

Parigipogu Avinash, 23, reportedly phoned his friends at 1 a.m. and informed that he was going to end his life. Even as they reached the spot, Avinash allegedly jumped into the canal.

Alcohol addiction

The Governorpet police said that Avinash, a car mechanic residing in Pezzonipet, was addicted to alcohol. His mother asked him to get rid of the habit, only after which he would be allowed to get married. Avinash was disputing with his mother over the issue since months, and took the extreme step, police said.

Jumps before train

In another incident, another youth allegedly committed suicide by throwing himself before a train near Vambay Colony in the city. Police said the victim reportedly lost all his money to cricket betting recently.
