A man, Satyanarayana, attempted suicide at Yerrupalem Tehsildar office in Kurnool district on Wednesday, but others thwarted his attempt. He along with a group of persons was staging a dharna in front of the Tehsildar office demanding eviction of encroachers from waste lands and their allotment of Dalits. As officials did not respond to the protest, Satyanarayana doused himself in kerosene in a bid to commit suicide, but others thwarted his bid. Tehsildar Sammi Reddy counselled him not to resort to such acts again.
Killed in accident
A 24-year-old youth Dhanunjaya Reddy was killed and another person was injured when a charcoal-laden lorry hit his motorcycle on the Badvel-Nellore national highway in Kadapa district on Wednesday.
The lorry was going from Krishnapatnam to Bellary when the mishap took place.
The Badvel police registered a case.
