A campaign has been launched in coastal Andhra Pradesh, covering the area from Palasa in Srikakulam district to Chintalapudi in West Godavari district, to make people aware of thyroid problems.

The campaign follows a study in eight urban areas, which reveals the one in 10 adults in India is affected by hypothyroidism and women are three times more susceptible than men.

Almost one-third of those having the problem are not aware of their condition and have been diagnosed for the first time during the course of study, according to the Indian Thyroid Society, which is conducting the campaign along with Abbott pharmaceutical company.

Thyroid gland is located in the neck area and it produces hormones that affect the growth, development, and overall functioning of the body.

There is no permanent cure for most forms of thyroid disorders, but medication and treatment will control the problem, says the ITS. Toll-free number 18001212022 can be contacted for details. Visit websitewww. thyroidindia.comfor information about thyroid disorders.
