Special police teams of Madanapalle division seized 56 country-made weapons, including two DBBLs, from two forest locations on Thursday morning. SP G. Srinivas said forest fringe villagers in Tamballapalle were habituated to poaching of wild animals with country-made weapons. “During the last few months, police undertook awareness programmes in the villages, warning the residents to voluntarily surrender the weapons,” he said. With this, the villagers had dumped the weapons at Sadhukonda hillock and in a forest location in Peddamandyam. Acting on a tip-off, police teams seized the weapons. However, no arrests were made.
