A statue of Dr.B.R. Ambedkar was damaged as a lorry allegedly rammed into it accidentally, near Bugga village in Tadipatri rural mandal of Anantapur district, here on Friday morning. R

uling out the incident as an act of miscreants, Tadipatri Rural CI B. Narayana Reddy sought to clarify that it was purely an accident and were on the lookout for the driver.

Mr. Reddy further said that the intersection acted as one of the major junctions for traffic between Anantapur, Kadapa and Kurnool districts, besides those from other regions.

“The movement of heavy vehicles is a common feature and everyday hundreds of them pass through the junction. It also serves as a pit stop for several drivers, who either sleep or take rest from their long journeys.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, around 2.30 am, when an unidentified driver was reversing his lorry and in the process, accidentally rammed into the statue,” he added.

A beat constable had also inspected the area, immediately, after learning about the incident, however, the lorry was nowhere to be found. The police officials are on the lookout for the driver and are examining the CCTV footage for clues to the investigation.
