The beneficiaries from poor families of the new housing project coming up at Ash Pond gave a rousing reception to Panchayat Raj and IT Minister Nara Lokesh during his visit to the construction site on the outskirts here on Monday.

During his interaction with the beneficiaries, Mr. Lokesh said the idea of housing for poor came out during the visit of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to projects of Singapore Housing Development Board.

He said the State government would help in creating 2 lakh jobs in cell phones manufacturing units by 2019 and another one lakh jobs in IT sector within one year.

He expressed happiness that the Nellore housing project took shape very well under the leadership of Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana. “Many houses were nearing completion in a very short period of time. It took over 20 months for me to complete my house,” he said in a lighter vein.

Mr. Lokesh inspected internal works at the housing project when he said vitrified tiles were being used in the houses and bathrooms were fitted with tiles up to 7 ft. With glass doors and wooden doors, the houses were taking good shape for beneficiaries to enjoy their life in full measure, he added.

Mr. Narayana said 6.81 lakh houses were allocated for the urban poor in the State and they would be completed by 2019.
