Licensed surveyors allege injustice by govt.

‘We were rendered jobless after recruitment of Survey Assistants’

About 2,500 licensed surveyors in Andhra Pradesh are at their wits’ end as they have lost their livelihood with the appointment of 11,158 Village and Ward Survey Assistants during the recent recruitment drive by the State government.

Licensed Surveyors M. Subahan and E. Prasad Babu told The Hindu that all their doors to represent the matter to the State government were now closed as the Survey Assistants had joined service. “We had asked the Revenue Minister Pilli Subhas Chandrabose to consider our case for appointment as Survey Assistant, but we were asked to write the examination and only eight of us got through the written test,” said Mr. Prasad Babu. This he said was like robbing Peter to pay Paul.

“While the State government gave us training in land survey for 15 days at Kakinada at its cost six years ago and allowed us to practice, it is taking away our authority at one go,” they said. “During his padayatra,Y.S. Jagan had promised to do justice to us by considering us in regular appointments, but we have been rendered jobless meting out injustice of the highest order,” Mr. Subahan said.

In the district, there were 180 licensed surveyors and they did not have enough work. And now there were 896 of them in the district under 63 mandal-level government surveyors, they said, and questioned as to what productive work could they do to justify their salaries. The licensed surveyors demanded that the State government show an alternative for them.
