Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday appreciated the role of Bima Mitra volunteers in the timely settlement of claims under the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana-Chandranna Bima (PMJJBY-CB) scheme and the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) for quick processing of claims. He said the State has paid out ₹1,200 crore to the beneficiaries of PMJJBY-CB and it has been taking the feedback of the people for plugging any loopholes.

Online services

Speaking at the PMJJBY-CB premium payout programme here, Mr. Naidu said 96% of the beneficiaries of the scheme were satisfied with its implementation this year and it was 98% last year. This scheme had been extended to workers in all unorganised sectors and it was especially beneficial to the kin of those dying in road accidents.

It is being ensured that the insurance claims are settled within 11 days of the death of the beneficiary.

The CM said emphasis was laid on rendering most of the services online and the efforts have been yielding encouraging results. He criticised the Central government for fleecing the people in the name of the Goods and Services Tax (GST). A GST of 18% is imposed on idli, which is ridiculous, Mr. Naidu observed.

Toll-free number

Labour Minister Pithani Satyanarayana said the PMJJBY-CB was made applicable to 2.50 crore unorganised sector workers and those having any grievances could call toll-free number 155214.

Mr. Satyanarayana and Labour Commissioner D. Vara Prasad gave away a cheque for ₹366.23 crore towards the premium to LIC regional manager M. Jagannath.

I&PR Minister K. Srinivasulu, Minimum Wages Board Chairman R. Rammohan Rao, Principal Secretary J.S.V. Prasad and Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty CEO P. Krishna Mohan were present.
