Students of the Deeksha IIT and AIEEE Academy have alleged that mathematics lecturer Jonnalagadda Srinivas Prasad had thrashed them for not performing well in the subject. They lodged a complaint with the management.

Unidentified persons who took a video of the incident leaked it to some electronic media channels. The incident occurred on August 4, but came to light after the video footage was telecast in the news channels on Tuesday. Reacting to the high-handedness of the lecturer, Collector B. Lakshmikantham ordered closure of the academy immediately. He also directed the officials to conduct an inquiry into the incident.

Following the complaint of the students, the management reportedly dismissed the lecturer.

Sarvasreshta Tripathi, Krishna SP, said a case had been registered against the lecturer and investigation was on.

Nandigama Town CI P.V. Ramana said Academy principal Syed Mohammad Haneef too lodged a complaint against Srinivas Prasad.

Mr. Lakshmikantham told The Hindu that the RDO concerned and the Regional Inspection Officer (RIO) of the Board of Intermediate Education had been directed to visit the college and inquire into the allegations.

Students to be shifted

“A detailed inquiry has been ordered and the officers will submit a report on the high-handedness of the lecturer. Recognition was cancelled to Deeksha Academy and the students would be admitted to other colleges. We ensure that injustice will not be done to the students and they can continue their course,” the Collector said.

“We will record the statements of the victims and the college management and take action against the lecturer, if found guilty,” Mr. Tripathi said.
