LDF hopes for anti-graft vote

June 01, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:59 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The Opposition Left Democratic Front (LDF) is looking forward to a favourable verdict in the Aruvikkara by-election due mainly to the people’s ire against the Kerala Oommen Chandy government’s ‘anti-people’ policies and the corruption charges against most of the Ministers, front convener Vaikom Viswan has said.

Briefing reporters after the LDF State committee meeting here on Sunday, Mr. Viswan said almost every Minister in the UDF Cabinet was tainted by corruption charge.

Many of them were clinging on to their seats despite facing serious charges.

The government’s continuation itself was in breach of all rules of governance and ethical values. The resentment of the people of Aruvikkara against all this would get reflected in their poll verdict, the LDF convener said.

Bar bribery case

Mr. Viswan came down heavily on the government decision to seek the advice of the Advocate General on the findings for the Vigilance team that had investigated the bar bribery case when the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) had eight legal advisers of its own.
