The beneficiaries who have got house sites in the past are not eligible, says Vizianagaram Joint Collector K.Venkata Ramana Reddy.

The beneficiaries who have got house sites in the past are not eligible, says Vizianagaram Joint Collector K.Venkata Ramana Reddy.

The district authorities are planning to adopt land pooling method in the city, Bobbili, Parvatipuram, Saluru and other places prior to the distribution of land to the poor likely to be undertaken by April next.

The administration has been conducting a series of meetings with the revenue officials in this regard. Land owners who would take part in the land pooling exercise would be benefited with the significant enhancement of the value of the properties after development, Joint Collector K.Venkata Ramana Reddy said.

“The housing requirement of the urban poor would be met sans hassles if the land pooling idea is materialised in Vizianagaram and other towns of the district,” Mr. Ramana Reddy said.

Giving more details about the land distribution scheme, he said that the administration had received 7.12 lakh applications seeking land, but only 80,000 had been found eligible to receive up to 2 cents of land each within six months.

“The selection of beneficiaries will be done in a systematic manner and transparency will be ensured with cross verification. The beneficiaries who have got house sites in the past are not eligible for the scheme. The urban poor may get 1.5 cents of land if pooling exercise is completed,” said Mr. Ramana Reddy.

Fresh survey on the cards

He said that the government is keen for a fresh survey of land in the district as it was done only during the British regime between 1912 and 1945. “This would put a full stop on the land irregularities and disputes. Transparency in records will benefit both the government and individuals,” observed the Joint Collector.

Referring to the ration cards, Mr. Ramana Reddy said the district administration would receive new applications from October 2. He assured that the change in address, transfer to other areas would be allowed after the entry of all applications.
