The Central government will streamline existing labour laws for the benefit of employees without compromising on industry needs, said Union Minister for Labour Bandaru Dattatreya at the third conference of Labour Ministers of southern States that was held in the city on Saturday.
The Centre will also upgrade Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) run hospitals and dispensaries in all States in the coming months for the benefit of skilled and unskilled employees. At the conference, Labour Ministers of States discussed at length labour laws, trade union activity, employees’ safety and security and also minimum wages.
The meet was also attended by Labour Secretaries and Special Secretary grade officers from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Lakshadweep, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala. Mr. Dattatreya said 44 labour laws will be categorised into four categories covering wages, industrial relations, social security and working conditions and safety.
