The State government’s push to transform Kolimigundla mandal of Kurnool district into a ‘Hub for Cement Industries’ has received a shot in the arm with the upcoming Ramco’s Greenfield Cement Plant.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, who took part in the facility’s foundation stone-laying ceremony via video link from Amaravati on Friday, said that the region was best suited for cement industries owing to the abundance/availability of limestone, water and logistics.
Railway siding
“Kolimigundla is an ideal location for the establishment of cement industries and enabling railway siding i.e., from Sanjanamala to Kolimigundla would attract more investors to set up shop. About 20 km of the stretch for railway siding, which is quite essential for cement industries, has been completed and the remaining 3 km would be completed at the earliest,” he added.
Mr. Naidu said that the upcoming Greenfield Cement Plant, being constructed with an outlay of ₹1,500 crore and a capacity of 3.15 million tonnes per annum, would offer direct and indirect employment to 500 and 1,000 persons respectively.
Mr. Naidu said that projects such as Mega Seed Park, Industrial Township, Orvakal Airport, Pharma Park etc., would pave the way for several major changes in the region.
The Chief Minister alleged that YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and Jana Sena Party Founder Pawan Kalyan were undermining the work being done by the State government. He thanked the farming community for giving up their lands.
Mr. Naidu interacted with a few farmers and lauded their efforts in supporting the government. Ramco CEO and MD P.R. Venketrama Raja said that the upcoming project would be a state-of-the-art facility, with all the latest technologies available in the cement industry. Mr. Raja said they allocated ₹15 crore for conducting skill development training for local youth and assured that prospective candidates would be employed in the facility. Banaganapalle MLA B.C. Janardhan Reddy and district Collector S. Satyanarayana took part.
