The forcible death of 25-year-old Krupamani, of Velpuru village, Tanuku mandal, explains how rampant trafficking and flesh trade was running in the district.
Krupamani’s parents — Ramalingeswara Rao and Lakshmi — and brother Raj Kumar – reportedly detained and tortured her to indulge in prostitution. Vexed with the series of developments back home, Krupamani jumped into an irrigation canal on October 19.
The woman was married to Pavan Kumar five years ago and the couple had a three-year-old boy. Later, Lakshmi, who used to frequent her daughter’s house created differences between the couple and separated them. She brought Krupamani to her house and filed a dowry harassment case against Pavan Kumar.
While Krupamani was staying with her parents during the trial period, they allegedly pestered her to do prostitution. When she refused, the family sold her to a flesh trade organiser, Gudala Srinivas, who reportedly took her nude photographs and beat her severely.
The victim managed to call her husband and narrated how her parents resorted to the cruel act and her situation in a prostitution den. A few months ago, Pavan Kumar, took Krupamani with him and the couple was staying separately.
However, Srinivas had tried to abduct Krupamani with the help of her parents. He threatened to put her photographs in different social media websites, if she refused to do prostitution. Unable to bear the torture, the couple lodged a complaint with Tanuku police recently. In a suicide note left behind, she explained the inhuman act and the torture meted out to her by Srinivas and her parents.
Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) R.P. Thakur said that three teams have been constituted to nab the accused, who absconded soon after the incident.
Speaking to The Hindu on Monday, District Superintendent of Police Bhaskar Bhushan said police received some specific clues on the movements of Krupamani’s parents and brother, and Srinivas, who procured her.
“We will arrest the accused in a day or two and see that the accused are severely punished in the case,” the SP added.
