The Krishna district police on Wednesday took nearly 400 TDP leaders, including district TDP president and MLC Batchula Arjunudu, into preventive custody, foiling their bid to proceed to Atmakuru in response to the call given by the party high-command.

According to the office of the Krishna district Superintendent of Police, those who were taken into preventive custody include former MLAs - Tangirala Sowmya (Nandigama), Swami Dasu (Tiruvuru), and Jayamangala Venkata Ramana (Kaikaluru).

Bandar Deputy Superintendent of Police Mehboob Basha said that Mr. Arjunudu and former Machilipatnam Municipal chairperson M. Baba Prasad and TDP State secretary Konakalla Bullaiah were stopped on the national highway while proceeding to Atmakuru.

On the other hand, Mr. Arjunudu launched a one-day relay-hunger-strike at his residence in Machilipatnam, condemning the State government’s bid to foil the ‘Chalo Atmakuru’ programme.
