The land acquisition process for the construction of the proposed atomic power plant in Kovvada of Ranasthalam is likely to be completed by the year-end, with the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) promising to deposit Rs. 500 crore as advance for the rehabilitation and resettlement package (Rand R package), according to officials.

The corporation has agreed to deposit the amount with State government towards the payment of compensation to the land owners who will part with their land for the project.

The total compensation needed for the project has been estimated to be around Rs. 940 crore and it may go up further, if the government accepts the demands of the locals for remunerative prices for their lands. Meanwhile, Chief Secretary I.V.R. Krishna Rao asked the district officials to cooperate in completion of the acquisition of 2,126 acres.
