Kin ransack college after student’s suicide bid

tudent organisations and kin of students ransacked furniture at the Narayan Junior College here on Wednesday after a student of the college attempted to commit suicide at his house.

Bharat Kumar, a first year Intermediate student of the college, resorted to the extreme step by consuming poison. His parents took him to a private hospital in Anantapur where his life was saved. With the student telling his parents and the police that he was being pressurised by his teachers to score more in the exam and was being insulted in front of his classmates for not being able to score. The teachers also identified him as a ‘poor and unintelligent’ student.

Irked by this, the parents and relatives of Bharat, along with activists of students’ organisations staged a protest in front of the college.

With the management allegedly not bothering to respond, angry protesters barged into the college and damaged some furniture, before they were whisked away by police.

‘Statement doctored’

While the police have registered a complaint based on the statement given by Bharat, student organisations alleged that the police had doctored the statement in a manner in which the college administration, given the fact that it belongs to a Cabinet Minister of the State Government, would not be in the dock.
