Kharge lashes out at Debroy panel report

‘Those in the NITI Aayog have little knowledge about the nation’

June 15, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - KALABURAGI:

M. Mallikarjun Kharge, MP and former Railway Minister, has termed the final report on restructuring of Indian Railways as yet another attempt to dismantle democratic institutions by the BJP-led NDA government.

Reacting sharply to the NITI Aayog member Bibek Debroy panel report, Mr. Kharge said he was amused to read one of the recommendations suggesting phasing out of the Railway Budget on the plea that MPs had the tendency to seek more trains for their respective constituencies.

“It is the right of the MPs to put forth demands and aspirations of the people of their respective constituencies…If MPs do not represent the demand of people in Parliament, who else will?”

Mr. Kharge said those in the NITI Aayog have little knowledge about the country, its socio-economic problems and the issues encountered in remote areas.

In the name of liberalisation and to achieve GDP growth, the Union government was on a dismantling spree of the public sector
