Kanna breathes defiance

The decision to frame charges against senior Kapu leaders in the case related to widespread arson during the Kapu Ikya Garjana at Tuni on Sunday provoked angry reactions from influential leaders of the community in the State.

Launching a counter attack on the ruling TDP Government, senior BJP leader and former Minister Kanna Lakshminarayana said here on Wednesday that he would not flinch even a bit and fight it out.

“I am ready to even sit in jail and have decided not to apply for a bail. If this is the way the Chief Minister wants to suppress a genuine agitation demanding justice from the Kapu community, he will face severe consequences,” he said.

Narrating the sequence of events on Sunday, he said that he had gone to the meeting to express his solidarity with the cause.

“It all happened so suddenly as Mr. Padmanabham gave a call to block highways and railway lines. Not even one leader spoke in the meeting. Within minutes the situation went out of control and with great difficulty I reached home at 3 a.m. on Monday,” Mr. Lakshminarayana said.

“It was Mr. Naidu who had canvassed that he would give BC status to Kapus and set up a Kapu Corporation with a corpus of Rs.1,000 crore. Over 85 per cent of Kapus threw their weight behind the TDP in the 2014 election. But now, Mr. Naidu has backtracked on his promise and, instead, is attacking the Kapu leaders,” Mr. Lakshminarayana said.
