First-ever Kalingandhra Utsavam began in Srikakulam on Friday night in a colourful manner in the presence of many writers, poets, musicians and others. The three-day festival was aimed at depicting rare culture of Kalingandhra region.
District Collector K. Dhananjaya Reddy, Sithampet ITDA Project Officer and In-charge Joint Collector L. Sivasankar made elaborate arrangements for the festival at two venues — Kodi Ramamurthy Stadium and Government Degree College.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Dhananjaya Reddy said that the next generations should be proud of their history and it would be known to them with such festivals. Mr. Siva Sankar said that the administration had put in a lot of efforts to collect information of the history of the region wayback from 2nd century B.C.
Eminent musician Bandaru Chittibabu and his team sang “Nene Srikakulam-Andhavani Abharanam’ song written by Late Dusi Dharma Rao who dedicated his life for collecting history of Srikakulam district. Nemani Somayajulu, Mavuduri Satyanarayana, Sundarampalli Srinivas and other musicians have showcased their talent. Cultural events attracted many people.

‘Dappu Vaidyalu’, ‘Sivabhagotam’, Dhimsa, and other programmes enthralled the audience. Flower decoration has become a major highlight of the programme. Several stalls, food courts were organised as part of the festival.
Joint Collector-2 P. Rajanikanta Rao hoped that more number of people from different parts of North Andhra region would attend the festival on Saturday and Sunday. The police made elaborate arrangements to prevent traffic jam in roads leading to Arts College. Srikakulam DSP Vivekananda monitored the traffic and urged people to cooperate with the department in ensuring hassle-free traffic flow on busy road.
