Jairam seeks to one-up TRS

Congress will make Dalit Chief Minister of T-State, he says

March 11, 2014 02:05 am | Updated November 16, 2021 06:27 pm IST - KARIMNAGAR:

Taking a cue from TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao, Union Minister for Rural Development Jairam Ramesh said the Congress will make a Dalit as Chief Minister of Telangana State after the elections.

“It is the dream of AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi to see a Dalit as CM of Telangana,” he said at a press conference here on Monday. He said the Congress had anointed Dalit as Chief Minister earlier in united Andhra Pradesh.

He said Mr. Gandhi had roped in former bureaucrat and AICC SC Cell president K. Raju to look out for a strong Dalit leader for the Chief Minister’s post. In Nizamabad, Mr. Ramesh said that the two new States were likely to have separate High Courts in three-four months .

Not on Sonia’s agenda, says Sarve

However the Union Minister Sarve Satyanarayana said that installing a Dalit as the first Chief Minister of separate Telagnana was not on the agenda of the Congress or Ms. Gandhi. Reacting to a query on the issue at Karimnagar, he said: “However, if Sonia Gandhi wants it that way it will be done.”
