Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly and president of the YSR Congress party Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy said on Tuesday he would bring in an Act to ensure that 75% hired in industries were from the State. Addressing a public meeting on the 150th day of his Praja Sankalpa Yatra here, Mr. Jagan listed several steps he would take if elected to power to end unemployment even if it did not get the Special Category Status (SCS).
Calling it a historic decision, Mr. Jagan said a Bill would be introduced in the very first Assembly session and an Act would be brought making it mandatory for all firms and industries to hire two-thirds of their employees from the State.
He said in a “revolutionary change”, village “secretariats” would be formed to ensure that the benefit of government schemes were provided to beneficiaries within 72 hours of applying. Ten local youth would be hired in every village to assist the secretariats that would extend the benefits to saturation level cutting across “caste, creed and political party”. All the 1.42 lakh posts would be filled through the Public Service Commission (APPSC) which would issue notifications every year. He said he would complete the Machilipatnam Port which the Telugu Desam government was unable to do even after four years. While just 4,800 acres were required, the TDP government issued land acquisition notices to farmers in 33,000 acres. He would complete the port with just 4,800 acres, he said.
‘Support YSRCP’
Asking the people to give all 25 MP seats to the party, Mr. Jagan said he would give his support to any Central government that would give SCS. He said the people of Andhra should not believe promises about the SCS any more. The support of the YSRC would be extended only after the file granting the SCS was signed.
Mr. Jagan said the TDP was giving flats worth ₹3 lakh to beneficiaries for ₹6 lakh. The beneficiaries would then be required to repay loan for the next 20 years. The YSRCP government would give flats without the beneficiaries paying a single paise and the houses would be registered in the name of women. Arrangements would be made to ensure that loans were available against the house at “pavalavaddi”, he said.
