YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday offered prayers at the temple of Lord Venkateswara here.
Mr. Reddy, who is on a thanksgiving visit on completion of his 14-month Praja Sankalpa Yatra covering 3,648 km, reached the main temple complex along the general queue line and offered prayers during the ‘mahalaghu darshan’, in which devotees are allowed to have darshan of the presiding deity from a distance of about 60 feet. Several of his party MPs and MLAs accompanied him.
Rousing reception
Earlier, Mr. Reddy, who reached the Renigunta railway station, was given arousing reception by his followers. He later embarked on a trek to the temple town along the Alipiri foot path.
Scores of party workers, who congregated at Alipiri, also walked along with Mr. Reddy. It took about three hours for him to trek the 12-km stretch. The party workers, who were warned against resorting to any kind of political sloganeering, enthused Mr. Reddy by chanting ‘Govinda ... Govinda’ all along the route. After emerging out of the temple complex, Mr. Reddy waved to the pilgrim crowd and proceeded towards the Sarada Peetham on the Gogarbham Road and sought the blessings its head Sri Swaroopanandendra Saraswati.
Interestingly, Mr. Reddy asked his party leaders not to seek any favours from the TTD authorities in the darshan of the deity, nor cause inconvenience to the pilgrims in the darshan lines.
Mr. Reddy is scheduled to leave for Kadapa district on Friday morning after an overnight stay in the temple town.
