YSR Congress Party’s Kurnool Parliament constituency in-charge B.Y. Ramaiah praised Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy for passing the 50% reservation Bill as well as another Bill that ensures a permanent BC Commission.
Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Mr. Ramaiah said that historic legislations were passed by the government within 50 days of coming to power.
“In the next five years, the people of Andhra Pradesh will see numerous legislations which will set a benchmark for the rest of the country to follow,” he said.
Mr. Ramaiah said that the Chief Minister is following in the footsteps of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, and added that though there are 1,600 Backward Castes in the country, only the Andhra Pradesh government was actively working for their uplift. “In the same manner, the reservations would also help in the uplift of SCs, STs, and minorities,” he claimed.
Takes a dig at TDP
Mr. Ramaiah went on to take a dig at the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) for not supporting the Bills and boycotting the discussions. “While the TDP claims to be a BC party, they have only treated BCs as a votebank. On the other hand, Mr. Jagan has demonstrated that YSRCP is firmly encouraging downtrodden communities,” Mr. Ramaiah said.
Before the conference, the YSRCP activists celebrated the passage of the Bills by cutting a cake.
