The National Investigation Agency (NIA), which is probing the attack on YSRCP chief and Leader of the Opposition Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, is preparing to file a charge-sheet in the NIA court soon.
NIA sleuths registered a case under Section 307 IPC and under Section 3 (A) (1) (a) of the Suppression of Unlawful Activities against the Safety of Civil Aviation Act, 1982. Earlier, the Airport Police Station of Visakhapatnam registered a case.
The investigating officers filed a memo in court stating that Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP-North Zone), Visakhapatnam, B.V.S. Nageswara Rao, who was the investigating officer in the case, had failed to transfer the case record, diary and property to the chief investigating officer despite directions from the court.
NIA officers said the investigation in the case is almost complete, and added that efforts are on to file the charge-sheet by January 23.
SIT to transfer evidence
The court has directed Mr. Nageswara Rao, who headed the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the State government, to transfer all case diaries, records and properties to the NIA chief investigating officer immediately, and intimate the same to the court.
A knife used by suspect J. Srinivasa Rao, a blood-stained shirt, fingerprints, mobile phone of the accused, call data records, statements of the witnesses, the First Information Report (FIR) filed by the Airport Police, and other records and properties in the case in possession of the SIT will be handed over to the NIA.
Accused grilled
The NIA questioned a few persons with whom Mr. Srinivasa Rao spoke over phone in the last few months, and enquired about their relationship and the purpose of their conversations.
Investigating officers reconstructed the sequence of events at the Visakhapatnam Airport in the seven days that the NIA had custody of the accused.
They questioned Srinivasa Rao about his bank transactions, academic background, contacts, and whether he had any criminal history.
