YSR Congress president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has charged the Congress with “misusing” the Central Bureau of Investigation for a “witch-hunt” against him as it is unable to digest his growing popularity. He has sought the support of the leaders of other parties.

“ … I request your understanding and support in our fight against the Congress, which is stifling the opposition and dissent,” the Kadapa MP said in a letter written to the leaders of all parties in Parliament.

Referring to the CBI probe against him and the inclusion of the name of his father and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, the late Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, in the first information report in disproportionate assets case registered against him, Jagan asked: “How is it that the CBI, which removed the name of Rajiv Gandhi from the Bofors probe on the ground that he was not there to defend himself, included the name of YSR in the FIR as the main and only conspirator?”

The UPA-II regime was using the CBI, the Enforcement Directorate and the Income-Tax department with impunity to destroy, defame and eliminate dissent in any form — be it political or otherwise, reminding one of the Emergency days of 1975. The time had come for all the political parties “to unite to fight against these fascist tendencies in the larger interest of democracy.”

Jagan did not spare the former Chief Minister K. Rosaiah either. “We have also seen how the Anti-Corruption Bureau case with substantial prima facie evidence was simply dropped so hastily to help K. Rosaiah become Governor of Tamil Nadu.”

“Even in respect of the 2G spectrum case, we see selectivity in handling by the CBI. The Congress is indulging in this witch-hunt against the Opposition parties because all the surveys conducted by various agencies, including the independent reports published by The Hindu and India Today , clearly bring out the fact that the Chief Ministers of all Opposition-ruled States are enjoying huge public confidence, as in the case of our party in A.P. So, unable to stomach this truth, the Congress wants to eliminate each of these leaders.”

Jagan, who was in the capital to attend the Lok Sabha session, met Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh and sought his support to “expose” the Congress. He intends meeting Leader of the Opposition Sushma Swaraj and thanking her for the support extended to him.
