Schools in the city organised ‘Sankaranti Sambaralu' on Thursday for the benefit of students who were fast losing touch with the rich Telugu cultural tradition in the wake of Western cultural onslaught.

Students of Nellore Ravindra Bharathi Bhagyanagar campus, guided by principal T. Adilakshmi and other teachers, recreated each and every aspect of the four-day festival starting with Bhogi. The students were given ‘Regi Pandlu’, a custom practised to protect them from evil eye. Students dressed like ‘Haridas' were the cynosure of all eyes. It was rehearsal for the students to celebrate with their parents the big festival next week, said school dean A. Adinarayana. The talent of students from the Sriram Public school came to the fore during the Muggulu contest. They blocked the road leading to their school to put eye-catching rangoli. Gobbemmalu, small cow dung balls with pumpkin flowers, were placed at the centre according to tradition. ‘Bommala Koluvu’ with attractive dolls was also organised on the occasion.
