INTUC to maintain its independent character

June 28, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:52 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The working committee of the Indian National Trade Union Congress which commenced its two-day meeting here on Saturday extensively discussed the need for the organisation to maintain its independent character but support the Congress politically.

The deliberations were marked by sharp criticism against a breakaway group of INTUC and strong support for G. Sanjeeva Reddy as the national president.

The leader of Congress in Lok Sabha and former Union Minister Mallikarjuna Kharge targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi for withdrawing facilities to labour class. Mr. Modi strengthened capitalist forces and foreign capital which Congress will not tolerate, he said.

Mr. Sanjeeva Reddy said the amendments to labour laws enunciated by Mr. Modi are unacceptable.
