A notorious inter-state gang involved in committing day robberies was busted by the Guntur Urban Crime Control Station (CCS) sleuths here on Monday. The CCS police recovered 550 grams of gold from the accused.

Additional Superintendent of Police B. Srinivasulu said that the 14-member gang was led by Dasari Kalyan Babu. Its members include Dokiparthi Babuvali, Thota Siva Prasad and a former SPF constable Ramesh.

Explaining the modus operandi of the thefts, the ASP said that Kalyan and Babvali had criminal history in the past and were involved in theft of rare idols.

In November, 2014, the gang hatched a plot to commit a theft at house of Miriyala Muralikrishna, a contractor in Prasanthi Nagar on Amaravathi Road. They got the information about his address from Siva Prasad, who worked as an electrician in his house. On November 21, the gang attacked the house, tied up an elderly couple in the house and stole 750 grams of gold at knife point.
