A day-long inter-State police conference involving officials of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, was held in the temple city on Thursday as part of efforts to step up vigil across the borders and to ensure better cooperation among officers.

The conference, which was attended by officials from Enforcement Directorate (ED), Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Forest and Police Departments of the three States, held deliberations on the strategies for improving cooperation, status of pending cases, problems arising while nabbing criminals (across the borders) and the future course of action.

Interacting with the media persons, Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police J.V. Ramudu said the event was fruitful and that the conference had evolved a strategy for strengthening inter-State cooperation by taking stock of issues which have occurred in the past. “Cooperation among officials and their respective departments is of prime importance, as criminals have no borders. To keep a check on smugglers, extremists and other offenders and to contain their illegal activities, we have to strive for better policing,” he said.

Mr. Ramudu said the Special Task Force to counter the red sanders smuggling in the region would soon come become operational, with its headquarters in Tirupati. He once again reiterated that no one, including police and government officials, would be spared if they were found guilty of involvement in smuggling activities. The recurring tusker menace in the borders areas of three States was also discussed during the conference.

Karnataka ADGs Ashith M. Prasad (Intelligence) and P. Anjani Kumar (DRI), Bangalore SP B. Ramesh, Deputy Conservator of Forests M.N. Vijaya Kumar, Tamil Nadu ADG (Revenue Intelligence) M.M. Parthiban, Andhra Pradesh Additional DGPs R.P. Thakur (Law and Order), and A.R. Anuradha (Intelligence), Central Excise and Customs Commissioner Janaki Arun Kumar, DIG B. Balakrishna, and Tirupati urban SP Gopinath Jatti took part.
