After providing several services such as postal insurance, Tirumala darshan and passport services, the India Post is now getting ready to sell solar lamps through its rural post offices.

In the first phase, the India Post has decided to offer lamps at Kalakada, Karvetinagaram, Satyavedu, Bhakarapet and Pakala post offices in Chittoor district.

“We are training an officer in each post office on the technical aspects of handling the lamps, which are made by SunKing company. The sale will most probably start from January,” Superintendent of Post Offices (Tirupati division) G. Srinivasa Murthy told The Hindu .

Claimed to be unbreakable and water-proof, the lamps are available in different glow variants - 50 lumens, 200 lumens, 250 lumens and 300 lumens. The lamp could emit light for 40-100 hours after being charged for four hours. The lamps come with features like mobile charging and USB slots.

For further details, prospective customers could call toll-free number 1800 2660 770.
