The YSR Congress Party complained to the Election Commission of India (ECI) against Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary Anil Chandra Punetha and DGP R.P. Thakur in New Delhi on Thursday.

A delegation led by Rajya Sabha Member V. Vijaya Sai Reddy submitted a complaint to the ECI saying the Chief Secretary (CS) had issued two “unlawful” orders on Wednesday cancelling “the orders of the ECI transferring DG Intelligence A.B. Venkateswara Rao”.

The “unlawful and illegal GOs” were issued on Wednesday after an hour-long meeting between Mr. Thakur and Mr. Punetha “on the instructions of the Chief Minister”. The CS later moved a Lunch Motion in the A.P. High Court challenging the orders of the ECI and the same was reported in several leading newspapers. This was evidence of the DGP and the CS acting in favour of the “ruling dispensation”, the complaint said.

The YSRCP also reminded the ECI about the DGP allegedly going from Amaravati to Prakasam district for a security review and escorting ₹35 crore on March 24.

The YSRCP reiterated its demand for the transfer of the DGP and the appointment of an officer who would act in an unbiased manner in his place.

The party in a separate letter complained against the Praja Shanthi Party that selected candidates having names identical or very similar to the names of the YSRCP candidates in 35 Assembly and four Lok Sabha constituencies.

Giving the list of the YSRCP and the PSP candidates, the letter asked the ECI to take action against the latter and cancel the symbol of ‘helicopter’ allotted to it.
